The Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) establishes the standard finishing grades used for most common injection mold applications. GRADE A:
HIGH-GLOSS FINISHES
A-1:
Super high-gloss finish for optically clear parts like lenses
A-2:
High-gloss finish for highly transparent or polished parts
A-3:
Normal glossy finish for parts needing a high polish
GRADE B:
SEMI-GLOSS FINISHES
B-1:
Fine semi-gloss finish, achieved with 600 grit paper
B-2:
Medium semi-gloss finish, achieved with 400 grit paper
B-3:
Normal semi-gloss finish, achieved with 320 grit paper
GRADE C:
MATTE FINISHES
C-1:
Fine matte finish, achieved with 600 grit stones
C-2:
Medium matte finish, achieved with 400 grit stones

Satin finish, typically created with glass bead blasting
