Complete mold polishing & finishing capabilities, from start to finish

At Alliance, we know the importance of staying ahead of the curve in any industry, which is why we continually evolve to create new and better ways to meet your needs and help you overcome challenges. We understand your time constraints and are committed to getting your project done the right way — on time and on budget.

A professionally polished mold is a high-performance mold. Our technicians have experience with a wide range of specialized mold polishing and finishing techniques to help ensure your molds meet SPI-SPE standards.

With our comprehensive mold polishing and finishing capabilities, we can polish and restore critical surface finishes to maximize part performance, extend service life, and reduce costly downtime.

From the raw materials to the finished parts, we are the leading mold polishing partner.

Our mold polishing services support a wide range of tooling types and manufacturing environments, including healthcare, aerospace, automotive, food and beverage, and injection molding.

SPECIALIZED MOLD POLISHING SERVICES

Ultrasonic polishing

This method of mold polishing is ideal for jobs where sizing and tolerances are critical. The use of a microscope ensures highly detailed, precise work with less risk to the final product. Ultra sonic polishing is also highly efficient, saving time and money.

Optical finishing

The highest grade of diamond finish available, optical finishing is ideal for automotive lenses, LEDs, safety glasses, or other clear plastic parts that must have crystal clear visibility with zero imperfections.

Aluminum finishing

Aluminum is one of the most difficult materials to polish or finish. Our approach to this type of injection mold finishing enhances durability and extends mold service life.

Weld blending

With the use of microscope technology, our weld blending services can achieve very precise tolerances within .003 for intricate, detailed repair and maintenance jobs.

Sand blasting

A quick way to clean grit and corrosion from parts, sand blasting can also be used to create matte finishes in a variety of degrees simply by changing the type of abrasion materials used in the process.

VAPOR HONING

Vapor honing is a method of polishing used to reduce the surface roughness and improve part clarity. This process involves using a mixture of water and a light abrasive to create a smooth, matte surface finish.

SAND BLASTING

A quick way to clean grit and corrosion from parts, sand blasting can also be used to create matte finishes in a variety of degrees simply by changing the type of abrasion materials used in the process.

Determining the right finish for your injection mold application

The Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) establishes the standard finishing grades used for most common injection mold applications. Because different plastic products and materials require specific surface finishes to achieve the best results, our years of experience can help you determine which of the following SPI finishing grades is best suited to your needs.

GRADE A:
HIGH-GLOSS FINISHES

A-1:

Super high-gloss finish for optically clear parts like lenses

A-2:

High-gloss finish for highly transparent or polished parts

A-3:

Normal glossy finish for parts needing a high polish

GRADE B:
SEMI-GLOSS FINISHES

B-1:

Fine semi-gloss finish, achieved with 600 grit paper

B-2:

Medium semi-gloss finish, achieved with 400 grit paper

B-3:

Normal semi-gloss finish, achieved with 320 grit paper

GRADE C:
MATTE FINISHES

C-1:

Fine matte finish, achieved with 600 grit stones

C-2:

Medium matte finish, achieved with 400 grit stones

C-3:

Normal matte finish, achieved with 320 grit stones

GRADE D:
TEXTURED FINISHES

D-1:

Satin finish, typically created with glass bead blasting

D-2:

Dull finish, achieved with #240 oxide blasting

D-3:

Rough textured finish, often using a coarser #24 oxide blasting
